For the second time in Iran, Silk Road Startup’s Road Trip will be held in 5 cities of the country for 10 days. Selected startups will be able to pitch in front of the local and international jury team for a battle to win the local prizes and attend the final event in 2019 in Kish Island. Registration for startups is now open.
During a press conference on August 5th in Tehran, the organizers of Silk Road Startup announced the opening of the applications for Silk Road Startup’s 2018 Road Trip.
“400 startups had applied for the 2017 Road Trip pitch competitions, of which 84 were selected to pitch in the local events in front of the jury team,” said Mohammadreza Azali, Co-organizer of Silk Road Startup Summit. These 84 startups also had a chance to be part of the “Silk Road 100”, an online acceleration program for the finalists to benefit from 1:1 mentoring, webinars and workshops,” he added.
“This year, Silk Road Startup Road Trip will take place from October 13th to 23rd in the cities of Mashhad, Tehran, Tabriz, Shiraz and Kerman. Applications for the Road Trip pitch competitions are now open and startups can apply from silkroadstartup.org” said Hadi Farnoud, Co-organizer of Silk Road Startup. “The top startups from each city can take home prizes including financial and in-kind, and will be invited for the 2019 finals in Kish Island,” he added.
According to Mohammadreza Hashemi, Lead Organizer of Silk Road Startup, due to the current economic situation in Iran, startups that are already making revenue and are able to export their products and services to other countries would have a higher chance of being approved for this year’s pitch competitions. He added that the jury team for the Road Trip consists of two Iranians and three international members active in different fields of tech and entrepreneurship.
