Latest statistics from the Ministry of Communications show that there are 72 million active cellphones in Iran and the mobile penetration rate has reached to 92.09 percent.
The first and biggest network operator in Iran, Hamrahe Aval(MCI) has the biggest share in the market with 57%. The runner-up is Irancell with 40% share in the market. Irancell is 49% owned by the South African telecommunication company, MTN Group. Rightel, the third largest operator which launched its services in 2012 is the first operator that provided 3.75G mobile telecommunication services in Iran. Rightel currently owns 3% of the market in Iran.
